The link is in the show notes. Let's go and explore the world. Hello and welcome to part two with Adam Bamford as we talk Norwich. In this episode, we're going to touch on our favourite pubs, cafes, lunch spots, restaurants, day trips around Norfolk.

and any other miscellaneous culture that we've missed. We're pretty sure we missed out some popular spots in this episode, but let's get stuck in and I'm sure you're thirsty after the last one and we're gonna kick off with some cafes with some coffee. Let's go. Okay, we got some like restaurants and pubs and cafes here now. Because people are probably getting thirsty after either listening to that or walking around completing those things. Three casts for coffee. Number one, The Yard, it's a favorite.

and it's on Red Lion Street. It's a quite nice location. You go down a little cobbled street, there's a gap in the buildings and they have a huge space at the back. Very airy, very light. And at Christmas time, very nice to see with the Christmas tree and lights. Lovely coffee. Great coffee, responsible coffee I think. She is the owner. She makes sure there's what's ethical. So it tastes good as well.

Bambi (:

There's a few places to eat near there isn't there? They're not in the same room but not connected to.

Hammo (:

think she said they bought that place next to it in the building to do some sort of food activities. So think they're going to convert that last time I heard. And I think she's got an alcohol license there now as well, so have events in evening.

Bambi (:

Very nice. I was going to mention Strangers Coffee. It's quite famous in Norwich. It's got a few buildings now I think or few little cafes but yeah traditionally they know about their coffee. You're guaranteed a good coffee there.

Hammo (:

right near the Groven and Fish Bar which we'll come to in a second. I think that's popular location. And the last one is Bread Sauce. There's another local chain. They've got a few in Norwich now. One in the Cathedral actually. Yeah. That's a nice one, isn't it?

Bambi (:

and not the Gerald as well.

Day

the other day, didn't we? Lovely, lovely coffee. Lovely drop.

Hammo (:

It's nice because it's combining old and new buildings, isn't it? Yeah. It's got the stone beneath it with the new wood. Yeah. It's quite a nice little location.

Bambi (:

Yeah, feels very classic, classic coffee shop.

Hammo (:

All those are local and I think the yard is on its own. It's the only one you can go to and Breadsauce and Strangers are local but they have things dotted around.

Bambi (:

So yeah, coffee is well liked by the Norwich citizens. So there are lots of places popping up quite regularly, like new places. So I can't keep track of all the coffee shops that are open in Norwich, but there's a lot of them and that pushes the quality up, I think. So yeah, it's a place to come Love it.

Hammo (:

Three restaurants. Now, you're more of an expert here than me. What's your first one?

Bambi (:

I was gonna say the Belgian Monk. Belgian Monk is, I don't know how old it is, but they're famous for their mussels, basically. It's called the Belgian Mump because it's got Belgian beers. So it's a Belgian theme, quite old kind of concrete building. Yeah, really good mussels and chips. You can have all sorts of sauces with your mussels. We booked in the other day and they sent us an email and said, we haven't allowed delivery of mussels today, so you can't. You'll have to cancel your booking, I'm afraid.

Hammo (:

wow. Yeah, I guess that's the thing, innit? I don't like muscles.

Bambi (:

But you don't like mussels? No? No. Fair enough. Each their own. Bloody love them.

Hammo (:

I you fish I do like, it's cod. Number two is groving in a fish bar. Has to get mentioned. It's won awards. Nationally I think. And even though it's slightly inexpensive side, it's quality.

Bambi (:

Yeah,

absolute quality. Fish and chips. It's been number one on the TripAdvisor restaurants for as long as I can remember. Right. Just because it's the place to go even though there's plenty of, you know, Michelin competing restaurants there. Fair. On that list, they can't beat Groves and the Fish Bar. For the good old fish and chips. can get take away or can eat in downstairs as well.

Hammo (:

It's smaller, it? And there's always a cure at lunch. Yeah. I think you need to go outside of the lunchtime hour because that is chaos. I think the birdcage opposite, which is a bar, I think you can take it from there into there.

Bambi (:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's busy, it's popular.

So after the mid-afternoon maybe.

Used to be able to, it's changed now. There used to be a music venue as well, didn't it, there's now a bar, I can't remember the name.

Hammo (:

okay.

Is that still a thing? Can you still do that, do you know?

Bambi (:

yeah, they must have an agreement in place, but they've got a little downstairs eating area. Yes, I'm looking down there in a little cave. Yeah, that's an option

Hammo (:

Got it. And number three, there's interesting one, the Waffle House.

Bambi (:

Yeah, just classic. It's independent thing. Waffle House. I'm sure you've got waffle houses in America. reckon so. But waffles aren't a huge thing. You get the potato waffles for your main and then get a sweet waffle for dessert. They have other options as well, of course. yeah, quite famous. Most people in Norwich have been to the Waffle House at some point. Yeah, so we've gone for three very accessible price-wise. There are lots of fine dining places in Norwich as well.

Hammo (:

Okay, good for coffee apparently, isn't it?

Bambi (:

There's been a few over the last wine bar. Very nice to visit.

Hammo (:

Right, pubs. Got to mention them because they had a pub for every day of year. I've gone for the classic, well our friends are listening to this and they're laugh at it. Cochin' Horses, Thorpe Road. It's a brewery, right? Yep. And good food, good location next to the train station. It's busy these days but it's good. They've got an outdoor area as well.

Bambi (:

Any good ones?

Basic food.

Hammo (:

Okay.

Bambi (:

But yeah, the beer's fresh. You know the beer's fresh. It's good. Yeah, great location. Yeah. Love Cajun horses. Ribs of Beef, my choice. Went there the other day, didn't we? Yeah. Good choice of beer, right by the river. You can go take your beer outside, of overlook the River Wenson. Yeah. Right through the middle of city. Yeah, it's pretty old. Wouldn't like to call how old it is, but yeah. Good option of beers, although be careful, I pay £9 for a pint in there the other day. Too much.

Hammo (:

Yeah, you weren't aware of that way.

Bambi (:

Yes, absolutely. very nice but... No, you have to save every sip, you?

Hammo (:

Is it ever nice when it's that expensive?

What is the average price of a pint of Norwich Shroken? Put a good question in it.

Bambi (:

always

goes up, that's a troubling thing. I think we're kind of in the vicinity of London, although it's not as expensive in London. do, yeah, it's not far behind. So not like cheap low here, cheap pint in the north. I'd say average probably between five, six pounds. Probably sneaking over six pounds these days.

Hammo (:

For a pint and an arch. For a pint, That's crazy, I think. Yeah. My mind's still stuck 10 years ago, Yeah. Yeah. OK, I've got a few more. 10 bells. So, band and nicks.

Bambi (:

Yeah, I know. Freak time 50 other than.

Ten bells.

Yeah, ten bells, the plows, some nice pub sounds and some melodics. Quite a lively eating and drinking scene.

Hammo (:

That's quite an old street, isn't it? imagine. Yes. Some cobbleds either side of it.

Bambi (:

It's got the churches down there, got the Orange Arts Centre down there, so it's got some holds.

Hammo (:

Yeah. And you've got one here called the last pub standing. And what's the fact about that?

Bambi (:

Facts about that, it's on King Street in Norwich and when it was, it used to be a bustling drinking scene King Street, lots of pubs, about 60 pubs they said but then they all closed one by one until there was one left so they rebranded themselves as the last pub standing. Wow. So yeah. Just off of Wales? And you've got live music in the garden sometimes, just off Prince of Wales. Yeah, worth checking out.

Hammo (:

Okay, we've got a list here just labelled as culture. Culture. It's a huge word. Yeah. We're just gonna list some things that are just Norwich based that might take your fancy. So the first one is the Waterfront, which is a music venue, first and foremost. Yeah. Yeah. But they also just have nights out, theme nights out there as well, don't they?

Bambi (:

music and seeing some big bands over the years isn't it? some some good artists. It's been around since about the set 80s I think I want to say.

Hammo (:

You listed out some bands earlier, I couldn't believe some of them.

Bambi (:

Yeah,

yeah, yeah, they've played there. Radiohead. I think on their way up bands will go there. I'd we don't get the crème de la crème in Norfolk. No. But you do see some decent artists definitely on their way up, kind of those mid-level, lots of touring bands. Yeah, nice place to go. Bit of an old-school music venue, I'd say.

Hammo (:

But we, in the back of the day, used to have Friday nights there, which was 80s and 60s and 70s upstairs. That used to be a night. I'm not sure if that goes on anymore.

Bambi (:

New years weren't there once, we?

Hammo (:

That was one of the worst nights we had there, I think. Yeah.

Bambi (:

mean going out on New Year's Eve is generally the worst night isn't it? Yeah Playhouse as well, really good for loads of good theatre shows or comedians go to Playhouse. It's got a nice bar next to it, very very good sort of trendy venue. been there a couple of times last year, really nice.

Hammo (:

But yeah.

Bit of a favourite actually.

coffee there as well in the morning. yeah, good for comedians, gigs, drinks and they're quite reasonably priced I think.

Bambi (:

think most recently I watched a podcast being recorded there, so something to try for, Hammeh? yeah? Yeah. It was the Bugle podcast with Andy Zoltzman.

Hammo (:

What that?

yeah, it's my mate Helen's brother, isn't it? Shout out to Helen. I'll see you in the New Year. Yeah, Helen Zoltzman lives in Vancouver now. We've had coffee over there few times. I'm trying to convince her come on the podcast.

Bambi (:

Yes, that's right.

fantastic.

Yeah, yeah, try and get yourself on Andy's podcast. think that one's got a bit of traction, that one.

Hammo (:

It's

just one Taskmaster, isn't it? Yes, yeah. Sorry if anyone has not seen it.

Bambi (:

He's doing a solo tour now, think he's going to the theater tomorrow actually. yeah? Yes. Cricket nuts. Yeah get yourself, he always has a co-host so you need to get yourself on there, have I? Yeah.

Hammo (:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, he loves his cricket. Yeah

I'm trying to get on the heaven's podcast first but we'll see. Okay, we've got UEA, the university. There's two universities in Norwich, isn't there? Yes. UEA is the big one. Yeah, UEA is huge though, isn't it?

Bambi (:

and the University of the Arts.

Yeah, UEA is just outside the city centre. The University of the Arts is sort of near the cathedral, sort of right in the centre. But yeah, UEA is quite big, it's sort of one of those campus universities. It's got nice grounds, it's got a lake there. But yeah, it's the LCR, I we put it down for culture, because the LCR is quite a good gig venue, probably slightly bigger than the waterfront. Yeah, it's bigger than the waterfront. And also Erlen Park, which is next to UEA, lots of... They put on a festival or two in the summer, normally. They do.

Hammo (:

Yeah, saw the old saints there.

Bambi (:

Yeah, we saw Nolgallagos. That's the one. Cool.

Hammo (:

Yeah

Was that before COVID?

Bambi (:

That was bleh, well yeah, pretty good, it's him.

Hammo (:

So UEA or should we say University of East Anglia? I think it's a leader in certain subjects. I'm not going to list them because I don't know.

Bambi (:

A lot of writers have come from there. Yeah, creative writing, big and the sciences as well. They're quite big in the environmental science world.

Hammo (:

It's a huge international campus, so think a lot of Koreans go there. Have you noticed that there's few Korean restaurants popping up? They're all full, so must be good.

Bambi (:

Yeah, there's a of them. I've been to a couple last year. I can't remember their names off the of my head, but yeah, really nice, really nice.

Hammo (:

the one near the Waffle House actually. I've got Norwich Puppet Theatre here. Medieval Church.

Bambi (:

Yep.

Iconic, unique to Norwich. Norwich puppet theatre, they put on lots of shows, very popular with the kids.

Hammo (:where Jimi Hendrix played in:Bambi (:

Do want to talk about Norwich

City? Norwich City, Premier League club up until recently. Well, on and off Premier League club. They're just around the corner from me actually. But what's the stadium? 27,000? Yeah. Decent size club. People in Norfolk love them. They've got a big catchment area, haven't they? So it nearly always sells out. Worth a trip if you're down here.

Hammo (:

hard to get a mostly right? But yeah, guess you want to see some football. That's the place to go. We mentioned Norwich Arts Centre, but that's a gig and venue as

Bambi (:

Oh

no, no, tried saying that, yeah that's in a church, one of the converted churches, that's a gig venue. Yeah, again you get sort of smaller bands and artists performing there. Yeah, again, nice venue.

Hammo (:

Okay, and we've just got some streets that you might want to check out whilst walking around. So we mentioned the St Benedict's, that's quite a nice street for pubs and stuff. Elm Hill we mentioned. Tombland, which is the street sort of runs alongside the Mayshead Hotel. It's where Ribs of Beef is, it's the bottom of Elm Hill. What's the history of Tombland? It must be just the main street back in the day, I'd imagine.

Bambi (:

Yeah, I the rumor that was basically where people were buried because it's called Tombland. Yeah, but it's not called that for that reason. I can't remember the actual reason though. Something else to do with the meaning of the word tomb.

Hammo (:

The

rumor was that all the people who built the cathedral, who died, were just buried underneath there. Yes. That could be a disembowelment.

Bambi (:

Yeah, that's that's that's what the I think that's the rumor. Okay, that's not true. There are some sort of passages that you can know of a means to do this you can the guides can take you down underneath Tombland in the castle that kind of area. There's connecting passages that sort of Some of things to do that one

Hammo (:

That'd be awesome, yeah.

Okay, got Chapman's Walk. That's the main shopping area where the market is up to the lanes.

Bambi (:

Do know the first pedestrianized street in the UK was in Norwich city centre? Really? Just off Gentleman's Walk. There you go. We appreciate our pedestrians in Norwich.

Hammo (:

Not that. Chase for that.

Okay upper St Giles, quite a nice little area that where the waffle house is yep well that might be lower St Giles from City Hall nice little independent shops quiet streets there but still very central yep Bishopgate

Bambi (:

but.

Yep, just near Lollard's Pit where our friend mentioned the witch drowning but also the other direction has got the cathedral so it's like near the Adam and Eve pub.

Hammo (:

that.

And

then the other direction is Gathill.

Bambi (:

That's right. For Hill, I'll never mention. Never mention for the Gas Hill. Yeah.

Hammo (:

We have to mention this road, Prince of Wales.

Bambi (:

Visit after 9pm, it's when it comes alive.

Hammo (:

the

UK culture at its best or worst. Yeah. think kicking out time on Princes of Wales Road is going to be up there.

Bambi (:

Same clubs come and go, hasn't it? It's where you go if you want a night out. But the summer's still hanging in there. There's a few clubs down there that people still go to. I think we've aged beyond that now, haven't we, Hamo?

Hammo (:

I think so, yeah. I've had some times down there.

Bambi (:

People enjoy it. Yeah

Hammo (:

I think when you're a youngster in Norwich, whether that's growing up or at university, I think you would go on Prince of Wales Road a lot. But I think it has lost something. Maybe it's because the new generations don't drink that much.

Bambi (:

Lost a bit of my ace magic, yeah.

I think that's a nationwide or even worldwide thing, it? A club scene has kind of died off a bit, hasn't it? It's more dispersed around Norwich now. think there's lots of bars open to one o'clock, that kind of thing. I think that's more popular these days, isn't it?

Hammo (:

I think this was the site of the Channel 4 documentary. Yeah. Which I think was like the worst treat in Britain to go out or something. And that was on there. Proud of it. Yep.

Bambi (:

still our, it's our worst street in isn't it?

Hammo (:

Yes, great. We've

got Chaplefield. That's the big shopping centre. Big in brackets.

Bambi (:

Yep.

called

Chantry Place but Chappell Field, yeah, decent size. I they do recommend it's on a lot of the lists of places to shop in the UK in top tens, Norwich. More? Yeah, well generally Norwich. Chappell Field is like the biggest mall with a fair amount of shops in there, you get what you need.

Hammo (:

Yep, and it's got Medieval Church right there. Another one.

Bambi (:

Yep, always there. Yeah, Chappell Field Gardens is obviously just next to it, isn't it? And then that's where you can wander around.

Hammo (:

Okay, and then we've got Castle Quarter, which is the area around the castle basically. Yes.

Bambi (:

That was the mall we went to when we were growing up, wasn't it? It used to be called the Castle Mall. it. Yeah, it's fallen behind. It's in the transition phase. think they're trying to convert. They've put Bowling Alley in there now and there's a few more entertainment bits and pieces in there. A few shops left.

Hammo (:

Yes.

forward behind now innit

I'm going to put a random shout out here that's not on this list is the Golden Triangle. If you want a little bit of trendiness outside the city centre but it's walking distance, the Golden Triangle, Unthink Road in there, a few bars, a few pubs, a few cafes.

Bambi (:

Adnums of South World they have a pub Yes, that's a brewery. William and Florence is an Adnums pub And they've got the Adnums shop down there Yeah, lots of pubs around there. Trendy area. Expected to live

Hammo (:

Very. We've got to finish off with just some day trips. You might be based in Norwich, you put this in the city centre for a couple of days, and where can I go outside of Norwich? So we've got some recommendations around the county. We've got one called All the Halls. All the Halls. Which is...

Bambi (:

holes.

We've got Sandringham Hall which is probably the most famous. Royal Family Residence over the winter. Blicklin Hall, Felbrick Hall, Holcomb Hall. They're all national trusts aren't they? I think something like that. So you can park there for a few pounds and then just wander around and they've got huge parks you can just wander in. big stately homes which I think you can pay a bit extra and go inside.

Hammo (:

Yep, Royal Family goes.

think Norfolk's known for that, isn't it? Yeah.

Bambi (:

mean Holcomb Hall, own loads of land around and they've got like, they've got a little mini museum next to theirs and they've got like play areas, they've deers running around the park.

Hammo (:

Great for summer activity, that, innit? Yeah.

Bambi (:

They've often got events on as well, or even I think Christmas walks, stuff like that they do, so all year round.

Hammo (:

But need a car though, I'll imagine right? don't think it's good idea transfer the there. As we mentioned Norwich is in a national park and it's called the Broads. This is a man-made water system going through certain places like the Roxxham, Akeel, Akeel mentioned it. Eglene, yep. And you can get a boat, Celeste, drive around. Or just go to one of the many villages alongside the water.

Bambi (:

It's dry to them, yeah. No, they're not connected.

heckling?

Yeah, they're not very deep. They might make, they were digging for peat back in the, I can't remember what century it was now, but digging for peat and then they've got all these broads are kind of dug out and then you can just get a little boat drive around in it. Yeah. Fun day out.

Hammo (:

Good wildlife. Birds about.

Bambi (:

Birds,

yeah. Loads of birds.

Hammo (:

that goes towards the coast, I imagine.

Bambi (:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can go that far on your day tripping boat, but yeah.

Hammo (:

Yeah, you're going to hold on to my voice. North Norfolk, sandy beaches.

Bambi (:

Yeah loads of beaches. mean the beauty of Norwich is you'd never in pretty much every direction you're hit a beach if you drive far enough. So to the east and the north and the northwest. Yeah.

Hammo (:

Any places to recommend? guess Brancaster is a good

Bambi (:

Norfolk's

quite famous for its beaches so up at Holcomb Beach is famous Wells and then you've got Blakely and Hunstanston that way. transition from pebble to sand a lot of the time as well. Very tidal out there so you've got to be careful. Got it. Yeah and then on the east you've got Great Yarmouth and a few others. Sea Pauline, Winston. Hemsby.

Hammo (:

Hemsby.

Yeah. I've got Burnham Market and Holt here. Sort of north, north of, not quite on the coast, but near there. Very trendy little villages that.

Bambi (:

Very

trendy, near Burnham Market they call that Chelsea on Sea because you get lot of Londoners coming out that way with second homes which I think isn't too popular with locals but I think they love the environment around there. But Burnham Market obviously where Nelson's from? Yep.

Hammo (:

And Holt is very nice. Yeah. Lovely. I think very historic. It's got to be one of the oldest settlements in Norfolk, I can imagine.

Bambi (:

So yeah, it's a nice little sounds visit.

Hammo (:

Hunstanton just on the border I imagine right in the northwest of the county yep you go surfing there yeah

Bambi (:

And fun fact, the only place on the east of England or the east of the UK that you can see the sunset because of the way the coast kind of wraps around to the west. If you stand on the beach at sunset time, you will see the sunset and over the sea. That's huge. Which is unusual to think of because we're east facing.

Hammo (:

Yeah. Sales.

Bambi (:

Seals, Blakeney Point, Halsey Beach. Don't go near them but yeah people love to go and have a little look. They like to hang out on the beach there for some reason. Yeah obviously seals of the North Sea just hanging out on the beach. Bringing up their young all that kind of thing. So see little seals, big seals. Yeah, honestly get hundreds on Sundays.

Hammo (:

Beach.

Just laying there, aren't I?

And you can park there, just walk around the trails.

Bambi (:

Yeah, it's very popular. They've over Christmas time they've got Santa coming in on a boat. got a traditional like fishing port town. Yeah, they've got Santa coming on the boat. It's a thing that loads of people from Norwich go to see at Christmas time. It's quite famous. Yeah. But yeah, in summer you've got really good walks down there. got, I think they try to keep everything independent as well. They don't let chains in. Love that rule. like coffee shops and food stuff. there's lots of independent menus up there. How long is that? Still true or not? It's an hour drive I think.

Hammo (:

Oh, is that room?

I was like, no.

Okay, we've got an interesting recommendation here. Winberry wine vineyard.

Bambi (:

Yeah,

was an up-and-coming. My brother had his wedding a few years ago and they gave us all the white and red wine for our wedding but that was before they went big. I think a year or two later they had a wine that went worldwide basically. It one global award since then. They've grown a bit. But there's a few, I mentioned that because there's a few other vineyards in Norfolk. I think it's a growing trade and then you can often go for wine tastings and things there. Yeah, quite trendy.

Hammo (:

Is that because it's dry here? Is that why it's been grown here? Maybe it's been...

Bambi (:

I

I it's a change of climate isn't it like slowly the climate is getting warmer so you can grow vineyards a bit more north and that's handy for us.

Hammo (:

Because Norwich is one of the driest places in the UK, isn't it? Yeah. So maybe that helps.

Bambi (:

Yeah, all the rain gets dropped on the west doesn't it? There's not much left when we get over here. I mean it feels pretty wet most of time though. That's UK though.

Hammo (:

It's snowing, isn't it? Yeah, I was having breakfast and it's snowing. We've got Windham.

Bambi (:

Windham, yeah, just a traditional market town, worth a visit. It's got Windham Abbey, it's got Old Market Square. Yeah, trendy, where Robert Kett's from. Yep. Mentioned earlier? Yep.

Hammo (:

Thetford Forest

Bambi (:

Yeah, good for walks. Man-made forest.

Hammo (:

Yep, and there is... Pine. bit military around there as well. Dad's army was filmed there. Yep. Yep.

Bambi (:

pine tree forest. Got it. parks.

Hammo (:

never been.

Bambi (:

They've been set apart quite trendy.

Hammo (:

think I'll have a go. Yeah. And we've got one last recommendation, but it's not Norfolk bass, it's Cambridge on the train. Very accessible.

Bambi (:

It's your STP.

Easy access.

Hammo (:

So you don't have to worry about getting a car. Yeah.

Bambi (:

Cambridge.

Ely, Arroway as well, quite a trendy historic town isn't

Hammo (:

So that kind of wraps up our notes. Any else to say about Norwich?

Bambi (:

No, it's the thing is, when you dig deep like this, it's worth, there's lots of things to see and do, know, so I think it's worth a visit if you've never been. Get on your list.

Hammo (:

I if

you come from a country that's, you know, I'm to say this, newer. If you're North American or you're based in Australia or New Zealand and you want a bit of history, but it's history that's walking distance all the time. It's got to be one of the best cities to go and see and do.

Bambi (:

State your stories. History in abundance.

Hammo (:

Go to London, get trained from Liverpool Street up to Norwich and then the train station is banging the city centre. Bypass Prince of Wales very quickly. Or you can take a right and go towards Gathill. See that?

Bambi (:

Yeah, and there would be even more, there? It was on the firing line of the Germans, wasn't it, in the war, so a lot of it was bombed, unfortunately, but there is obviously a lot of it still surviving.

Hammo (:

Yeah,

but not the balcony.

Bambi (:

Not the balcony though, if you want to go near that.

Hammo (:

Yep.

Yeah, so I think for anyone who's visiting UK, I know London gets it. I understand you're putting on land there, but for somewhere accessible from London even, think Norwich should be on the list. I think staying here, we didn't mention accommodation actually.

Bambi (:

No.

You to worry about that. You've always got a bed in, or there's everything you have, mate, when you come home. Yeah.

Hammo (:

It's hard to know what is there.

mean, May Ted Hotel is the iconic location, but it is expensive. Yeah.

Bambi (:

assembly house also expensive yeah i don't know i think there is plenty of places to stay because people do yeah do visit it must be definitely gonna be cheap in london that's for sure

Hammo (:

Yeah, I can't talk, but we can't tell record. Shoot

in London, I Airbnb's, there's quite a few in the city center. Yeah, so options. Yeah. But we don't really recommend them because we never have to stay in a hotel. No.

Bambi (:

That'd some trendy B &Bs about it, yeah.

The pub hotels around Norfolk, of the surrounding area, there's lots of nice pubs and restaurants and things and often they have hotels attached.

Hammo (:

It's Georgian

townhouse. that a hotel or B &B?

Bambi (:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, one of the examples. Cusp, again, probably quite expensive, but... Hostiles wise, I if there's any hostiles. any hostiles. There used to be one just down the road from me, which I closed a number of years ago now, but...

Hammo (:

That's on the cusp of the city centre.

Peace.

Don't think there's any hostiles. But there's a... I think so, yeah. Yeah. There's Premier Inns and stuff there, aren't there? Yeah. Yeah.

Bambi (:

There's a gap in the market there.

Yeah, you've got a few of the classic... Yeah.

Hammo (:

Trains.

But yeah, recommendations for accommodation, not really sure, but I think Airbnbs would good as well. I saw the other day, people had a little book. I don't know if this is a thing. This must have been New Year's Eve, went for a coffee. And the amount of people we saw having a book or a pen, I don't know if it's like a little map trail thing you tick off things, go and see and do, but I don't know where you get that from.

Bambi (:

Yeah, I having look at the bookstores recently. There's loads of books about Norwich, stuff to say in Norfolk, know, things to do, walks you must do, things you must see. Yeah, they're definitely out there, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Hammo (:

Maybe get them from the cathedral or something or maybe the library. We didn't mention the library. There's a big library forum in the middle.

Bambi (:

Forum,

yeah, so called the Millennium Forum. Yeah, but yeah big library's got a that's where radio Norfolk a host based on TV

Hammo (:

And the Norwich bus station for transport, that's in middle of town as well. If you come in from London or wherever. And we have Norwich International Airport, which I use via Amsterdam to fly from Canada.

Bambi (:

very handy as well.

I read earlier today it's now opened up some new destinations this year. yeah? the Baltics. lovely. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Expanding. Expanding out. That's amazing. Not on Norwich International. But it's easily accessible to Stansted as well isn't it and Luton in about an hour and a half away.

Hammo (:

Wow.

and stanza by train. Yep. Which is a bonus. Well, there you go. That's Norwich. Yeah, it's called a fine city and it's a recommendation to visit outside the usual favorites. If you've got any questions or any correction of any facts that we've laid out, please let me know.

Bambi (:

of fine city.

nothing

to create there at all, it's all perfect.

Hammo (:

Apart from a of us a bit. Cheers, Michael Foy. Yeah, let us know and send me an email. here's Norwich. Cheers. Thanks for coming back on. Yeah, she would have said it's been four years later.

Bambi (:

It's an orange. Cheers.

Always a pleasure, Hammeh.

Four years later. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hammo (:

Actually to finish on, how do think the journey's gone? Have you been keeping an eye on Winginget's journey?

Bambi (:

The journey for winging it? Yeah. I'm incredibly proud. Winging it, personal winging it or your winging it? Both. Personal winging it? I wish I could get out more. I've got a few new travel stories but nothing major.

Hammo (:

Yeah.

Both.

Actually,

yeah, we should finish on. Yeah. Randomly, this is not knowledge based. What are maybe like your next top five destinations that you want to go to?

Bambi (:

I've got my bucket list destinations which are hard with full-time work as a teacher it's quite hard to get the time to do but realistic I want to go to Japan it's high on the list yeah I want to do a proper tour of Japan a few weeks there yeah and not just Tokyo sort of Tokyo and beyond yeah places in Europe I haven't seen yet Finland and Iceland I want to go to haven't ticked them off yet so I want to go see them at some point I've been toying with Australia New Zealand but that would be a bigger venture yeah so that's my bucket list South America is still a dream but I think I can't realistically

Hammo (:

realist.

Bambi (:

It's expensive to get to isn't it? need to do that properly so... Probably not home. Okay, so that's the goal, that's the dream.

Hammo (:

Yeah.

Anything booked in for:Bambi (:Andorra for the first time in:Hammo (:

How close was that?

Bambi (:

I was there a day earlier, so I went for a little walk around. It's kind of near the hotel where I thought it would be safe and then kind of down by the river, really hot day, so sort of beautiful mountain stream, clear water, smile for my face in it. Sort of chilled out there for 10 minutes, sort of went back onto the walking bit and then... Next morning, got up early for the bear walk, went out into the country, out into the mountains, the high Tatches Mountains. And then I was telling the guide where I went the day before, and he says, you went where? I was going down the river for a bit of... Oh my God.

I by his reaction I think I narrowly missed being mauled by a bear after wandering into their territory. So just be safe out there. Be safe out there kids.

Hammo (:

Wow.

Wow. And did you get to see any bears on your walk?

Bambi (:

Yeah, in the distance. very, they've got very good noses. So think they could tell we were about, so you could see them kind of moving away as soon as we were close. but yeah, it was, it was an experience. Yeah. Yeah. It was really good.

Hammo (:

Amazing. Okay. Well, to finish on, yeah, what about Winging It's

Bambi (:

I'm

incredibly proud of it, I it's going places isn't it? like the fact that you're... What's up hun? When I was on there as first guest, I thought I never knew you'd have any guests down there.

Hammo (:

It's a long way in, it's a way back. I think you'll be in the 160s.

Bambi (:

160, that's incredible. You're doing a good thing for the shareholder community. I would continue to go from shareholder to shareholder.

Hammo (:

And I think there's plenty more to come, but not done an episode of Norwich, so this will be a...

Bambi (:

There you go, uniquely happy to serve the fine city. Goodbye. Cheers.

Hammo (:

I think we'll say... I

don't think we anything about Norwich, even though we're from here.

Bambi (:

miss something glaring I'm sure of it I just can't think what.

Hammo (:

Yeah, possibly. Yeah, thanks for coming on. Appreciate it.

Bambi (:
